Two Cedar Rock Creeks
On page 88 of Jim Bob Tinsley's book "The Land of Waterfalls", he describes a waterfall on the Cedar Rock Creek that flows into Cathey's Creek. As most waterfallers know, Cedar Rock Creek in Transylvania County flows into the Davidson River by the Fish Hatchery; way over on the other side of the mountain from Cathey's Creek. But, this creek flowing south from Butter Gap, is also called Cedar Rock Creek. As far as waterfalls go, this one, even in Jim Bob's view, doesn't amount to much. However, Jim Bob had an anecdotal story to tell about the area so he included this small waterfall in his book. In his book, he tells about a settler who, with his wife, put down for the night in a little gap just up the creek a ways. The wife went to sleep with her backside too close to the camp fire and her clothes caught fire. Hence, the story of Burnt Ass Gap was cast. Back in 2008, I bushwhacked down to the waterfall from a trail that runs between Butter Gap and Kagle Mountain Road. I continued on down the creek and came out by the bridge on Cathey's Creek Road. Remembering that the bushwhacking wasn't too bad between the waterfall and Cathey's Creek Road, I decided to run over to Cedar Rock Creek and re-visit the waterfall. This time, I would bushwhack up the creek from Cathey's Creek Road. I was surprised to find that there is a trail, such that it is, that will take you directly up to the waterfall.

After crossing the creek, the trail gets less discernible. Still, it is following a distinct road (path).
